Birthday Cake… From a box???

For those of you who know me, you know I am a “from scratch” kind of girl… But my husband’s birthday was this week and I thought it would be fun to make a cake with my 3 year old. Since it seemed a cake from scratch might be too intense for his attention span, I decided to go the boxed route!

On my numerous weekend trips to the grocery, I have always seen a nice assortment of Stonewall Kitchen baking mixes. Tons of options and ALL NATURAL! I figured I would give it a try.
Stonewall Kitchen was started by Jonathan King and Jim Stott in Maine back in 1991 with a simple jar of jam! From those humble beginnings selling jam at local markets, they grew Stonewall Kitchen into the company it is today with 11 retail locations, thousands of wholesale accounts and a product line including baking mixes, jams, salsas, kitchenware, tableware and much more! Now back to the cake – All you need is eggs, butter, water and milk!

The directions on the box are easy to follow. Minimal prep, minimal steps! My little guy helped me mix the batter and that was the fun part. He was so excited and proud, that alone made cake from a box totally worth it!

The best part about the cake was the delicious frosting! So fresh and light, you would never know it wasn’t homemade!

I definitely recommend Stonewall Kitchen baking mixes when there isn’t time to bake from scratch or for a fun project with the kiddos!
