Where has the time gone…

I started this blog over 2 years ago as a fun side project… Sharing recipes mainly but occasionally some wellness tips and maybe a mom hack along the way. But then life happened and with a full-time job, 2 awesome and very energetic little boys, a wonderful husband who logs a lot of air miles and being an adjunct professor I simply ran out of time!

So now that summer is here, I am taking some me time and I am getting back into it!

When I studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition a few years ago, we spent time talking about Primary Foods. You are probably thinking Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Protein etc. but it has nothing to do with actual foods. It is all about fulfilling yourself with more than what you put on your plate [healthy, positive relationships, regular physical activity, a spiritual practice, career] are all primary foods.  Primary food feeds you and nurtures you on a deeper level. It is what really fuels us and then what gets put on your plate is secondary.  When your primary foods are balanced your life is more balanced! 

Another IIN concept is the Circle of Life. The Circle of Life below helps your see what areas in life you need to work on to help bring about that balance. Using the circle below, place a dot in each section based on how satisfied you are. A dot at the center of the circle represents dissatisfaction, while a dot toward the outside represents happiness and satisfaction. 

It is easy for us to forget about keeping that balance in our “primary foods”.  For me, that’s where this blog comes in. It’s a creative outlet! A place to share some of my kitchen experiments, new workouts, self care tips and some mommy tips.  In the coming weeks, I am challenging myself to focus more on the primary foods that fuel me. So come along for the ride with me and check the blog for updates!
